A man has changed his life after making a simple change to his daily routine – he no longer sits down while at work.
A 37 year old man named Arshad Chowdhury, a health app designer, decided to change his work set-up two years ago when he came to the conclusion that his hours sat in front of a computer were bad for him.
On a working day Mr Chowdhury, who lives in New York, often stands for more than 10 hours and claims he’s never felt better – he said his posture has improved and that his work productivity has rocketed.
He said: ‘I don’t have before and after blood tests or objective metrics, but here’s my subjective experience.
‘I cannot attribute all these changes to standing; I do a Power 20 workout (a popular, intensive 20-minute workout) every day.
‘Nonetheless, I stand more than any other activity, so it probably shapes my body more than anything else.’
He said that before he trialled his new work lifestyle he was concerned about potential side effects – he was worried that he would develop knee, foot, back, or hip pain.
He was also convinced that he would end up exhausted at the end of the day and that his productivity and concentration would decline.
The fact is he discovered quite the opposite.
He said that his posture has improved, his neck and shoulders no longer hunch forward, his legs have become more muscular and that his back pain has entirely disappeared.
He says that people can also burn up to 500 calories a day by standing up.
In fact, his experiment has proved so successful that three other people in his office have also started using standing up desk.
