Glo Premier League 2012/2013 finished off successfully last weekend with Kano Pillars Football Club retaining the title it won last year.
The Pillars had a total of 63 points after 38 rounds of matches. Kano Pillars rode on the back of their invincibility at home to win the title for the second successive season.
Only Lobi Stars took points off them at home and they did not falter even when they were banished to play home games in Abuja and Lokoja after crowd disturbances. Former African champions, Enyimba Football Club of Aba did a last minute sprint when they beat Sharks of Port Harcourt 1-0 on the final day to finish second with 62 points to confine Bayelsa United and El Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri to the third and fourth positions respectively.
After the first round of the season in bottom place, Sharks looked like a team heading for life in the lower division.
The Blue Angels fought back their way from sitting in the bottom spot for 13 weeks to finish in a respectable eighth position. Akwa United also achieved an escape from the drop as the club held Kwara United to a 1-1 draw in Ilorin.
Sadly, 3SC of Ibadan, Wikki Tourist FC of of Gombe and the two Ilorin based clubs, Kwara United and ABS.
No matter what a lot of people have said about the manner with which Victor Namo of Nasarawa United emerged the leading scorer, it was a breakout season for the striker. He scored 19 goals including his double strike against champions Kano Pillars on in Lafia September 8.
Three coaches, Ndubuisi Nduka (Heartland), Abimbola Samuel (Sunshine Stars) and Alphonsus Dike (Nasarawa United), readily come to mind as men in the dugout who got fired this season. In their places came in Ramson Madu, Fatai Amoo and Kadiri Ikhana respectively.
Government of Delta state, in conjunction with the state FA appointed former NPL boss, Davidson Owunmi as CEO of the new look Warri Wolves management committee.
His appointment was greeted with fanfare as he is expected to bring his wealth of experience, charisma and winning aura to the club regarded as the best funded in the local scene.
