The Northern Youth Movement For Positive Change, NYMPC, on Monday accused Mallam Lamido Sanusi,the governor of Central Bank, of working at cross purpose with President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
The group said Sanusi had been a long ally of Senator Bukola Saraki from Kwara State, and that the duo were now joining forces with rebel governors to bring down the government.
Coordinator of NYMPC, David Glavda, who made the accusation in a press conference, in Abuja, said based on the recent role played by Sanusi on the controversial $49.8b NNPC money, the CBN helmsman had failed to justify the confidence reposed in him by Nigerians, particularly the Muslim community.
He said: “Based on the information you passed on to Bukola Saraki and Rotimi Amaechi, the Senate Committee Chairman on Petroleum Resources (downstream) went to the National Assembly to accuse NNPC of stealing $7b from the federation account.
“When he could not convince his colleagues to institute a probe, Rotimi Amaechi took over the campaign.
“Again, both the National Assembly and the public ignored them. This time around they encouraged you (Sanusi) to write this now infamous letter to the President, alleging that USD49.8 billion was missing.
“The content of the letter was leaked by Bukola Saraki and Rotimi Amaechi to the press hoping that Nigerians will riot, protest and cause general mayhem, and eventually lead to the fall of President Jonathan’s administration.
“Sanusi since assumption of office has been carrying on more as a politician than a corporate helmsman. He has also thrown away all sense of decorum required of the head of the nation’s apex bank.
“Nigerians have come to know the truth. First, there is no missing money from the federation account, and neither has NNPC failed to remit oil revenues as at, when due as the CBN governor alleged.”
