Former head of state and leader of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has stated that Nigeria has been governed by thieves since the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came into power in 1999
Buhari, who was the CPC presidential candidate in the 2011 polls, charged Nigerians to reject the ruling party at the 2015 general elections and embrace the All Progressive Congress (APC) to herald a new dawn in the country. He said the APC will bury the PDP in 2015.
He spoke yesterday at a rally in Kagoro, southern Kaduna, when hundreds of people from the area trooped out to receive him and other leaders of the APC. The residents at the colourful  ceremony sang various songs, including “Goodbye PDP.”
Former governor of Lagos State and APC leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who also spoke at the rally, accused the ruling PDP of inflicting more pains and poverty on Nigerians.
The rally was organised by the Conference of Opposition Political Parties of Southern Kaduna.
Buhari said Nigeria had been in the hands of thieves from 1999 till date, “and we are determined to ensure that the party called PDP is buried come 2015”.
According to him, “The issue of merger has been on since 2007 by people who are serious about saving the Nigerian state. We are coming together to get PDP out of sight. This is absolutely necessary because the system needs to be stabilised. There is the need for us to come together; go back to our constituencies and save Nigeria democratically. This means that we have to make sure that the system conducts a very credible and free and fair election. And we are going to win the 2015 election. We are confident with our people.”
“All that we inherited before 1999 have all gone down the drain. We are hearing of the stealing in the country in billions. There is outright theft by the ruling PDP,” Buhari declared.
Also, Governor Tanko Al-Makura of Nassarawa State accused the ruling party of promoting politics of deceit, money, religious bigotry and ethnic manipulation to divide the people for selfish interest.
Al-Makura said, “We must salvage this country from the thieves called PDP. We must seize power from their hands because the PDP is devilish, and we are determined to fight the devil for the betterment of our people.”
Tinubu, who was represented by Musa Gwadabe, appealed to Nigerians to join the wind of change for the rapid development of the country.
Former minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Malam Nasir el-Rufai said, “Come 2015, we shall bury the PDP. We are determined to ensure that we chase the gang of thieves out of power. This we will achieve with our ballot papers come 2015.”
Senators Goerge Akume and Sani Sale who spoke on the occasion described the PDP as “a harlot who will soon be out of market”.
Former chief of naval staff Vice Admiral Ibrahim Iko lamented that unfit political leaders had been allowed to lead the country, hence the challenges of development and corruption.
