 The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU,  suspended indefinitely its National Executive Council meeting today 13th November 2013 due to the  death of its former national President, Prof. Festus Iyayi who died in a ghastly auto-crash along Lokoja – Abuja federal Highway on  Tuesday.
Prof. Festus Iyayi aged 66  who was actually on his way to Kano for the  National Executive Council meeting,  died after the vehicle he was in had a head-on collision with a security vehicle attached on the convoy of Kogi State Governor, Captain Idris Ichala Wada at a  village near Lokoja .
National President, ASUU, Dr. Nasiru Fagge told reporters in Kano that “we are compelled to postponed this meeting in the light of the sudden death of one of our strongest pillar who died yesterday”
Dr. Nasiru Fagge said that “as you can see for yourself, we are mourning the departure of this great scholar and you would agree with me that in this circumstance we cannot look at issues objectively”.
Dr. Fagge also described  his late colleague as as 'strong pillar of the union'.
