Kwara State capital yesterday, in anticipation of a looming scarcity of fuel commodity was thrown into mild panic as commuters bought up fuel at the filling stations in Ilorin metropolis when it was observed that the products were available only in a few filling stations in the state capital.
A motorist who was on queue at a filling station along the Specialist Hospital road, Alagbado, Alhaji Salihu Abdullahi said that he hurriedly joined the queue “when I learnt that the products will not be available from tomorrow (today)”.
He said he had made calls to his friends to alert them of the impending fuel scarcity in the town.
Investigations revealed that most filling stations have exhausted their stocks due to the yuletide break which affected distribution of fuel.
But the Kwara State office of the Department of Petroleum Resources yesterday urged the people of the state not to entertain panic, attributing the looming scarcity of fuel to the yuletide break.
Some of the filling stations visited where fuel was not sold, included MRS along Taiwo/Unity junction, Sanrab at Tanke, MRS and Total at Post Office while the commodity was dispensed at Total petrol station, Taiwo road, Haflum Ventures Limited, Surulere and YTK petrol station opposite Ilorin General Hospital.
